NOT just another football Blog

Must watch football movies

Here I am clubbing two of my favourite past times - Football & Movies

My top 5 MUST watch football movies:

1) Green Street Hooligans - aka Hooligans (2005)

"Stand Your Ground And Fight"

A wrongfully expelled Harvard students moves to London. Here, he is introduced to the violent underworld of football hooliganism.

Really good movie. Shows you the "other side" of football.

2) Mean Machine (2001)

"Not Your Usual Suspects"

A soccer star jailed for assault leads a group of inmates in a match against prison guards.

I love this movie simply because it has Vinnie Jones & Jason Statham. However, it has some good football moments too. It has a killer tagline and is inspired from the older "Longest Yard"

3) Bend it like Beckham (2002)

Who wants to cook Aloo Gobi when you can bend a ball like Beckham?

The daughter of orthodox Sikhs, rebels against her parents' traditionalism by running off to Germany with a football team.

We've heard of this one of course!

4) Goal! The Dream Begins (2005)

"Every Dream Has A Beginning"

Like millions of kids around the world, Santiago harbors the dream of being a professional footballer. However, living in the Barrios section of Los Angeles, he thinks it is only that--a dream. Until one day an extraordinary turn of events has him trying out for Premiership club Newcastle United.

A pleasant surprise. Nothing extraordinary though.

5) Shaolin Soccer (2001)

"Kick some grass!"

A young Shaolin follower reunites with his discouraged brothers to form a soccer team using their martial art skills to their advantage.

This movie had to feature here simply because it was OUTRAGEOUSLY stupid and funny.
